is it necessary to see a doctor for sciatic nerve pain?

Question by Moonface086: is it necessary to see a doctor for sciatic nerve pain?
I’ve been having pain for the past few weeks in my sciatic nerve. The pain is the worst in the mornings when i first get up out of bed (i can hardly walk it hurts so bad) and in the evenings when i go to bed. (it doesn’t matter how I am laying I have a constant shooting pain)
I’ve tried ice/heat, ibprofen, etc and it works for a short time but then the pain is back. I even tried a muscle relaxer last night and that didn’t do anything.

Yes, go to the doctor. I had a similar experience in which I would get severe pains starting in my lower back and then they would shoot down my leg. The doctor finally ordered an MRI which showed a bulging disc which impinges on my nerve causing the pain. I did PT for awhile which helped but not 100%. I have now gotten 3 cortisone injections which hasn’t made the pain go away completely but it has significantly helped.
